The 45th annual Geving Campout was held the last weekend in July at the Geving cabin near Round Lake. The forecast promised splendid weather. However, it was cold and rainy. This did not stop them from having a good time.
More than 90 guests attended. Of these 90-plus, there were five who attended all 45 campouts. They are Dorothy Miller, Marty Johnson, Lynn Perkins, Theresa Dipple and Greta Kulju. They were each presented with a special T-shirt.
This year’s theme was “Mafia.” The food contest was something made with olives. Greta Kulju won for best tasting, Bernis Geving won for best presentation and Bonnie Feidt won for best overall.
Prime rib and ham grilled under the direction of head cook Ron Miller were enjoyed by all.
The cribbage tournament was won by Stephanie Aleshire and second place went to Katie Meehan.
The costume contest was hilarious with lots of black suited Mafia looking men and women. Mike Dipple won the prize for the men. Bonnie Feidt won for the women. Marty Johnson won best overall. Landon and Logan Miller and Andrew Aleshire won prizes for the children’s contest.
The Uff Da award was presented to Dave Pockrandt.
Jacob Kulju entertained guests around the campfire playing his guitar and singing.
The news was shared that Darrel Geving has just been promoted to major in the U.S. Army.
First time guest was Bill Moore from Sacramento, Calif. The oldest guest was Les Johnson, 91, from Bemidji. The youngest guest was Taylon Jackson, four weeks, from Cromwell.
