Alvin Dwight Simonson, 85, Finlayson, passed away peacefully Oct, 5, 2013.
He was the sixth child in a family of 12, graduated from McGrath High School in 1947, and served in the U.S. Air Force for three years. He married Marlene “Peggy” Karsky in June 1952 and lived in Wichita, Kan., where he worked for Boeing until 1958 when the family relocated to Minnesota. He was a labor foreman for Jesco Construction Company in Minneapolis until the fall of 1981. He served his church, VFW, AAL and McGrath and Hinckley-Finlayson school boards. In 1996 he was honored at the state school board convention. His smile and love for family, deer hunting, fishing, watching Minnesota sports teams, animals and nature will forever live on in our hearts.
He is survived by his sons, Dennis (Anita), St. Paul; Delvin (Janet), St. Cloud; and Chuck, Finlayson; daughters, Gail (Tad) Gates, North Branch; Leah Olson, Minneapolis; 16 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
His celebration of life will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thu., Oct. 10, at Kapala-Glodek Funeral Home, 230 13th Ave NE, Minneapolis, 55413; 612-378-1331. Visitation will be prior to the service from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Burial will be at Fort Snelling at 1:30 p.m.
