The first weekend in February always means a celebration of all that is winter in Palisade, Minn.,  a tiny community north of Aitkin.  The Palisade Mid-winter Festival started in 1988 as a stop on the route of the now annual Mid-Minnesota 150 sled dog race. The festival draws a crowd for this once-a-year lighthearted celebration of winter. Cold and snow have no effect on the warmth generated by folks turning out to just have fun, greet each other, and thumb their noses at old man winter.
