Julia Real was born and raised in Minneapolis.
After graduating from West High School, she attended the University of Minnesota, where she obtained a double major in studio arts and theater arts. Following some time in Los Angeles, she moved to Aitkin, where for 18 years she taught classroom art to grades seven through twelve. Julia is now happily retired and doing commissioned paintings of portraits, family pets and landscapes.
Ms. Real’s stage experiences in Aitkin High School began by designing and building sets for the one-act competition plays. Then twelve years ago, she took on the role of director. More than one of her productions advanced to the regional level.
As a part of Aitkin Community Theater, Julia has participated in “Breath of Spring” (2004), “Good Night Mrs. Puffin” (2005), “I Remember Mama” (2014), “Explorators Club” (2015) and “Play On” (2018). This year she has the role of a middle-aged mother to three grown sons, who are slowly returning to the nest. The laughter occurs as she and her husband try a variety of ways to push them out permanently!
Julia has one son, Franklin, who is a senior at the University of Minnesota at Morris.
