Free seminar on knee, hip pain

Riverwood Healthcare Center will host a free dinner seminar called “Solutions for Knee or Hip Pain” at the Timberlake Lodge in Grand Rapids on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Cancer support group to meet

Pharmacist Matt Rioux will speak about immunizations at Cuyuna Regional Medical Center’s Cancer Support Group on Wednesday, Oct. 16, from 12 to 2 p.m. in the hospital’s Clinic Conference Room.

People who are newly-diagnosed with cancer, undergoing treatment or post treatment and their significant others are invited. The group is an opportunity to share experiences and support one another, to listen and learn.

Registration for the support group is not required and there is no cost to attend. A new topic is discussed each month and a complimentary lunch is provided. Groups are usually scheduled the third Thursday of each month. For more information, call 218-546-4319 or 218-546-4302.

NARFE meeting scheduled

The National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE) Chapter 0738 will be meeting at The Center (senior center) located at 803 Kingwood St., Brainerd, on Wednesday, Oct. 16.

The meeting will start at noon and will feature Lu Barfknecht, Blue Cross-Blue Shield representative. Barfknecht will speak on the Medicare programs and how they fit into the federal Blue Cross-Blue Shield insurance plans.

All federal employees and retirees are welcome to attend. This meeting is free and you do not need to be a member of NARFE to attend.

Eat, drink, and be scary at the fall Ladies Night Out Oct. 18, from 5-8 p.m. The Aitkin Area Chamber of Commerce and Aitkin Retail Committee invite everyone to shop Aitkin, win prizes, strike fear in the heart of man - just a casual Friday night. Costumes encouraged.

Glen Store’s Halloween party

The Glen Store, located at 31993 280th St., Aitkin, will be holding their eighth annual Halloween party Oct. 18 from 5-8 p.m.

Admission is $10. Activities will include: adult Bingo, kids games, costume dress-up and a haunted trail at 7 p.m. The menu includes: brats and hot dogs, chips, dessert, popcorn, caramel apples. There will also be door prizes announced at 8 p.m. (must be present to win).

Annual Fall Festival

The Community Alliance Church will hold their annual Fall Festival on Saturday, Oct. 19 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 9475 Jefferson St., Garrison.

Everyone is invited to join. Activites will include a vendor, craft sale and bake sale. Beef stew and bread sticks will be served.

Used a bit… Christmas sale

The Light of the Cross Lutheran Church, Garrison, will be hosting a “Used a bit....Christmas Decor and Collectibles” sale on Saturday, Oct. 19 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. The church is located two blocks west of Family Foods, Garrison.

Northwoods Forestry Cooperative Annual Field Day

The Slettom family’s Glen Farm, at 31213 292nd St., Aitkin, will be hosting the field day. Watch for the NFC Field Day signs on Hwy. 47 south of Glen.

The field day starts at 8 a.m with coffee and treats and concludes around 3 p.m.

There will be a walk in the woods to see and discuss the Slettom family’s forest management, a free lunch (donations appreciated), a silent auction and some practical forestry demonstrations.

Autumn at Community Alliance Church

On Saturday, Oct. 19 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m., Community Alliance Church (9475 Jefferson St., Garrison) will hold its annual fall festival.

Activities include a bake sale, a “koffee” house, and a dinner of beef stew and bread sticks, apples, cookies, pies and more. Proceeds benefit AED (automated external defibrillator) project.

Cedar Lake final worship

The Cedar Lake Norwegian Lutheran Church will hold it’s final worship service of the season on Sunday, Oct. 20, at 11 a.m.

Pastor Carl Egstad will be officiating. Special music is planned. Coffee and fellowship will follow the service. The church is located along Pioneer Avenue. All are welcome to come and worship.

National Physical Therapy Month at CRMC

In celebration of National Physical Therapy Month, Cuyuna Regional Medical Center (CRMC) therapists will offer free balance assessments in the hospital’s Cornerstone Lounge on Monday, Oct. 21, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

‘Family Matters’ second session

Aitkin Community Education is holding their second session of “Family Matters” on Monday, Oct. 21. The goal of “Family Matters” is to bring current topics to families from local professionals.

The topic of this session is social media, internet safety and sex trafficking. The presentation starts at 6:15 p.m.

McGregor ART’s meeting

Tori Fredrickson, McGregor resident, will talk and demonstrate rock painting on Tuesday, Oct. 22 at 4 p.m. at Fireside’s Gazebo Room. The public is invited to come to this free demonstration, which is sponsored by ART’s, Inc. There will be a short business meeting, demonstration, then “hands on” creation. The Cuyuna Lakes Chamber’s Annual Dinner, Under the Harvest Moon, will be held Thursday evening, Oct. 24, at the Northern Pacific Center, Brainerd.

Aitkin Children’s Center Fall Party

The Aitkin Children’s Center will be having their annual fall party Thursday, Oct. 24 at Rippleside’s new gym from 5 - 6:30 p.m.

This event is free and no registration is required. It is open to all area children, birth through pre-kindergarten age with older siblings welcome.

There will be gift baskets, treats, games and a costume parade at 6 p.m.

Kite origami workshop

Learn to fold origami kites with origami expert Kathleen Sheridan on Thursday, Oct. 24 at 6 p.m. at the McGregor Public Library. Pre-registration is required. This workshop is recommended for teens and adults ages 13 and older.

The McGregor Public Library is located at 111 E Center Ave., McGregor.

Aitkin All Starz pork chop dinner

The Aitkin All Starz will be holding their annual pork chop dinner Friday, Oct. 25 from 4:30-8 p.m. at the Aitkin Moose Lodge.

The menu includes a smoked pork chop, Block North mac n’cheese, and dessert. There will also be a silent auction and bake sale.

Tickets are available from any All Starz dancer or may be purchased at Pine Insurance Agency or Hometown Lumber.

Holiday bazaar at Malmo Lutheran

Malmo Bethesda Lutheran Church will hold its annual holiday bazaar from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26.

Bazaar at Cascade United Methodist

Cascade United Methodist’s annual bazaar and bake sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 2.

A chicken chow mein lunch will be served at noon.

Handcrafted items, baked goods, canned items and grandma’s attic items will be for sale.

Cascade United Methodist Church is located on Hwys. 6 and 210 between Crosby and Deerwood.

West Point Parents Club seeks donations

West Point Parents Club of Minnesota is packing and shipping care packages for deployed service members (all branches) on Saturday, Nov. 2.

This is its biggest campaign of the year. Last year it sent 250 boxes.

Happy hour for a cause

The Deerwood Lakes Lions will be having a “Happy Hour For A Cause” event Nov. 21, held at the Cuyuna Brewing Company, Crosby, from 5-7 p.m.

There will be appetizers furnished by the Iron Range Eatery. The cost is $15.00 which also includes a flight of beer of your choice.

Silent auction items will be available. The cause will be the Back Pack Program for the Cuyuna Range Elementary School. This provides nutritional food for 185 packs per month for the child hunger relief program.
