9/11 Memorial 2019

In front of the Aitkin County Government Center, the Aitkin Fire Department set up this memorial display. One flag was placed for every firefighter killed in the 9/11 attacks.

343 small flags on the courthouse lawn memorialize firefighters who died on 9/11

The Aitkin Fire Department once again created a memorial to the firefighters who gave their lives on Sept. 11, 2001.

Every year on Sept. 11, the United States observes Patriot Day in remembrance of those who were injured or killed during terrorist attacks on that day.

By order of Governor Tim Walz, all United States and Minnesota flags were flown at half-staff at all state and federal buildings in the state of Minnesota, from sunrise until sunset, on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2019, as a mark of respect for the victims of this tragedy.
