Evelyne “Freddie” Johnson

Evelyne “Freddie” Johnson is the oldest VFW Auxiliary member at 96 years and nine months old. During Wild Rice Days, Evelyne had helped serve the meatball luncheon at the McGregor Methodist Church. She was unable to get to the parade route due to the volume of cars and parking, so former McGregor Mayor Jerry Farley picked her up on his four-wheeler and gave her a ride to the parade line-up. It was Evelyne’s very first four-wheeler ride! Upon arriving, Aitkin County Sheriff, Dan Guida, assisted Evelyn onto the VFW float in time for the parade. There were two other members in their 90s on the float - Helen Pollreis and Irene Johnson. (Evelyne is pictured on the right in a red, white and blue visor.)
