Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine Physician, Courtney Deane, D.O., will be the guest speaker at Cuyuna Regional Medical Center’s Cancer Support Group on Thursday, Feb. 21, from noon-2 p.m. in the hospital’s Clinic Conference Room.

She will provide a general overview of osteopathic medicine, a complete system of medical care that combines the needs of the patient with the current practice of medicine, surgery and obstetrics. She will also explain how osteopathy can treat neurologic syndromes, digestive disorders, respiratory illness, genito urinary problems, lymphedema, fibromyalgia/pain syndromes, post-surgical and incisional pains, scar pain, and trauma.

Board certified in neuromusculoskeletal medicine/osteopathic manipulative medicine by the American Osteopathic Board of Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine, Dr. Deane earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine and Bachelor of Science in Medical Biology-Medical Sciences degrees at the University of New England in Biddeford, Maine. She completed an internship and residency in the Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine Department at St. Barnabas Hospital in Bronx, New York, where she also served as Chief Resident and was named Hospital Intern of the Year.

People who are newly diagnosed with cancer, undergoing treatment or post treatment and their significant others are invited. The group is an opportunity to share experiences and support one another, to listen and learn.

Registration for the support group is not required and there is no cost to attend. A new topic is discussed each month and a complimentary lunch is provided. Groups are scheduled the second Thursday of each month. For more information, call 218-546-4319 or 218-546-4302.
