Charles (Chuck) Watson of Bigfork, formerly of Palisade and Aitkin, was born on Nov. 17, 1936 at Palisade to Walter and Pearl (Emmert) Watson. He grew up in the Palisade area. He entered the Air Force on May 14, 1957. He took his basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, and his technical training at the Air Base at Wichita Falls, Texas. After that he was based at the Rome Air Force Base at Rome, N.Y.
He married Carolyn Cook on Oct. 5, 1958 at the Palisade Methodist Church. After Carolyn graduated in May, 1959, she joined him in Rome, N.Y., where they remained for the remainder of his tour of duty. Charles was mustered out of the service on May 13, 1961 and they moved to Palisade, where they lived until they bought their farm nine miles west of Palisade in 1966. They farmed and Charles worked as a carpenter and logger for the next 21 years. They sold their farm in 1987 and moved to Rapid City, S.D.
Charles was in poor health while they lived there and in the fall they moved back to Aitkin, where they lived for several years and Charles bought his own skidder and became an independent logger. He worked as a logger until he retired in 1995.
Charles loved to hunt, fish and play baseball. In later years he started doing woodwork, first making furniture and later doing scrollwork and intarsia with his wife, Carolyn. He was an avid reader and loved the “Old Country Music.”
