Clifford Arthur Sanbeck, 97, Aitkin, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2019 at Hallett Cottages, Crosby.

He was born July 6, 1922 in Crosby to Arthur and Anna (Midthun) Sanbeck. Clifford graduated from Crosby High School in 1940. Clifford was a veteran of the United States Navy and served on the USS Pierce at Guadalcanal, Peleliu, Okinawa, Saipan, Philippines Sea, Guam and Leyte. He received the Navy Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Philippine Liberation Campaign Medal, American Campaign Medal and Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal.

Clifford was united in marriage to Harriet Elizabeth Swanson on June 15, 1957 in Aitkin. Clifford was a miner at the Cuyuna Range as well as Mesabi Range. He also worked at Aitkin County Road and Bridge Highway Department. Clifford was a member of Aitkin American Legion Post #86, Aitkin VFW Post #1727 and Bethesda Lutheran Church of Rossburg. He enjoyed baseball, tapping maple trees for syrup and especially spending time with his family.

Clifford was preceded in death by his parents; wife; two brothers and one sister.

Clifford is survived by his children: Art (Debbie) Sanbeck, Mora; Tom (Sheri) Sanbeck, Aitkin and Jean (Paul) Olson, Aitkin; grandchildren: Chris (Kaija) Hasskamp, Nick (Aslyn) Hasskamp, Kristin (Mick) Lundstrum, Sarah (Alex) Venning, Erik (Erika) Sanbeck, David Sanbeck, Corrine Sanbeck, Alec Sanbeck and Anna Sanbeck; great-grandchildren, Ilo and Evelyn Hasskamp, Evan and Zach Lundstrum and Ella Venning; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services will be Wednesday, Nov. 27 at 11 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, Aitkin. Visitation will be Tuesday, Nov. 26, from 5-7 p.m. at Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home, Aitkin and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Military honors will be provided by Aitkin American Legion Post #86 and Aitkin VFW Post #1727.
