Deacon Luverne “Vern” Lee Anderson, 79, Aitkin, was called home to be with our Lord, peacefully on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2020 at Aicota Health Care Center, Aitkin with his beloved wife of 58 years by his side.

He was born May 3, 1941 in Aitkin to Andrew and Phyllis (Rydell) Anderson.

Vern was postmaster of Aitkin and a deacon at St. James Catholic Church, Aitkin. Vern loved his church, his family, playing cards with family and friends, gardening, and watching the Minnesota Twins. Vern will be forever remembered for his love of God and compassion. And we can’t forget his witty comments. Vern will be greatly missed.

Vern was preceded in death by his parents and half sister, Charlene Young.

Vern is survived by his loving wife, Betty, Aitkin; children: Tim (Pauline) Anderson, Aitkin; Tom (Dana) Anderson, New Hope; Lori Anderson, Burnsville; Heidi (Chad) Larson, Aitkin; Eric (Amy) Anderson, Hermantown; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Mauritz (Norma) Anderson, Stillwater.

Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday, Aug. 28 at 11 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, Aitkin with Father David Forsman as the celebrant. Visitation will be Thursday, Aug. 27 at St. James Catholic Church from 5-7:30 p.m. with a rosary service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Private interment will be at Diamond Lake Cemetery, Farm Island Township, Aitkin County.
