Gary Robert Sorensen, 67, Aitkin, died Friday, Sept. 6, 2019 at his residence.

He was born Aug. 27, 1952 in St. Paul to Kenneth D. and Gladys E. (Duffy) Sorensen. In 1971 he graduated from Lincoln High School in Bloomington. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1971 serving in the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1988 as a Sargent First Class. He attended college at the Minn. Institute of Medicine and became a Certified Veterinarian Tech. He also attended Central Lakes College and was certified for marine and small engine repair. He was a lifetime member of Aitkin VFW Roberts-Glad Post #1727 and Aitkin American Legion Lee Post #86. Gary loved all animals and the outdoors. He cared very much and always had special nicknames for his close family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth D. Sorensen and Gladys E. (Duffy) Lien.

Gary is survived by two children, Jessica and Patrick Sorensen; his grandchildren;  two sisters and brothers-in-law: Sandra (Robert) DeLoach, Linda (Peter) Cordes; four nephews: Michael D. (Katie) Pierce, Jason A. Pierce, Lester G. DeLoach, and Matthew L. (Julia) Clark; two nieces: Malissa (Dave) Trench and Christine Clark; great-nieces and great-nephews; other special relatives and friends.

Private services will be held at a later date. Burial with military honors will be at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Arrangements are with Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Aitkin.
