Gerald Lawrence Tibbetts, 82, Aitkin, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2020 at Riverwood Healthcare Center in Aitkin.

Jerry was born April 3, 1938 in Aitkin, the son of James and Emma (Scheffler) Tibbetts. Jerry attended and graduated from Aitkin High School and was in the National Guard. Jerry was united in marriage to Shelby Jean (Liesen) on April 20, 1957. He worked at various jobs over the years and retired from Land O’ Lakes. He enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, and elk hunting out West. He also loved feeding the fox and wild cats. We would tease him that he was the only person that had spoiled wildlife. Following the death of Shelby in 1972, he married Sharon Lee (Allen) June 7, 1975, until her death in 2020.

Jerry is survived by four children: Terry (Tony) Smoley, Vicky (Mike) Assell, Kathy (Steve) Badger, stepson, Lawrence Denny; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild on the way; and other extended family members and close friends.

He was preceded in death by both of his wives, Shelby and Sharon; parents, James and Emma Tibbetts; brothers, James and Richard Tibbetts; sister, Darlene Anderson; and his beloved dog Lulu who passed 14 hours before him.

There will be a celebration of life service at the VFW in Aitkin, followed by a luncheon, as per his wishes, on Saturday, Aug. 22, from 2-4 p.m.
