Wanda Carlson, 67, died Oct. 2, at Solvay Hospice House, Duluth, after an extended illness. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date, with three celebrations to be held in 2020 in McGregor; Laguna Vista, Texas and Baudette.
Wanda was born on Feb. 29, 1952 in Stillwater, Minnesota to Verna and Dale Hjelmberg. During her life she worked for a variety of employers including the State of Minnesota, Blandin Wood Products, Potlatch, Jerry Hammond Trucking and self-employed with her husband. She married Richard Carlson on Oct. 16, 1971. They moved to Jacobson in 1980 where they raised a son, Erick and a daughter, Renee.
Wanda was a resident of Laguna Vista, Texas, but had lived in several places including Jacobson, McGregor and Baudette. Wanda had many interests and hobbies including being a Master Gardener in the state of Minnesota as well as being a member of the Rio Grande Valley Quilt Guild in South Texas. Wanda was an avid fisherwoman and enjoyed her time on the water with friends and family in Baudette.
Wanda will forever be remembered as a kind and caring individual that loved to laugh and have fun. Her impact on friends and family was immense and she will be missed by everyone. Her family was central to her life and she loved her grandchildren dearly.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, Dale and Verna Hjelmberg and her brother, Dennis Hjelmberg.
She is survived by her loving husband, Richard Carlson; children, Erick Carlson with daughter-in-law, Tonya Carlson; daughter, Renee Carlson, four beloved granddaughters, a grandson and two sisters, Ann Dochniak and Sandy Hjelmberg.
