Pristine Concrete is a new specialty concrete business in Aitkin County.
Owner Ryan Shaw has 25 years of of experience in both basic concrete installations and state-of-the-art interior concrete applications.
Shaw moved to Esquagama Lake north of Aitkin 17 years ago and has moved several times within Aitkin County since then.
He now lives on Great River Road north of Aitkin. Shaw has a child going to school in Aitkin and has gotten to know many in the area.
Pristine Concrete was started five years ago. The company does all kinds of concrete work. Shaw recently started doing concrete countertops and epoxy floor and countertop overlays. After getting some specialized training, Shaw and his crew have started doing those kinds of installations around the Aitkin area. Pristine is the only contractor in the area doing this kind of installation.
“Epoxy countertops are warranted for two years,” said Shaw. “We can come in and get a job done within three days in most cases.”
Shaw grew up in Cambridge, on a small hobby farm. He also worked on his uncle’s dairy farm in Wisconsin from time to time.
After going to school in Cambridge, and working at a small dairy farm there, Shaw got into full-time construction work.
Shaw recalled his biggest challenge in trying to get established as a small business has been making it through the slower winter months. Trying to keep people employed year-round is one of Shaw’s motivations for learning to do the interior concrete and epoxy work he is doing now.
Those projects can be done during the winter months, when outside concrete work comes to a halt.
Shaw enjoys pretty much any outdoor acivities during his down time, in particular fishing, hunting and spending time with his son Jace.
