An alleged stabbing incident June 25 has led to criminal charges in Aitkin County.
Clifford Monroe Skinaway, McGregor, was charged June 26 with one county of felony attempted murder, second degree, one count of felony assault, first degree, and one count of felony assault, second degree.
He is currently being held in Aitkin County Jail on an unconditional bond/bail of $600,000 and a conditional bond/bail of $300,000.
His first court hearing is set for July 10.
According to a press release from the Aitkin County Sheriff’s Department, a 911 hang-up was received at 7:20 p.m. June 25. Shortly after, the department received the call reporting a man had been stabbed in the chest.
Deputies responded to a residence in Spalding Township, but when they arrived, they learned that the alleged suspect had fled the scene on a bicycle, and the victim had left the household.
With the assistance of the Minnesota State Patrol and Minnesota Department of Natural Resources officers, the alleged suspect was located along Hwy. 65.
Deputies continuing to search the area and residence located the victim, Clinton James Nichols, 45, McGregor, when he returned to the residence.
He was transported by ambulance to Riverwood Healthcare Center with two stab wounds to his chest, and then later transferred to Hennepin County Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
Aitkin County Sheriff Dan Guida said Friday, when asked, that alcohol was involved in the incident.
