A McGregor father has been charged after his 2-year-old son was shot in the eye with a BB gun.
According to the Aitkin County Sheriff's Office, the seriously-injured child was taken to Riverwood Healthcare Center emergency room Monday evening with the injury. An Aitkin County Sheriff's Office deputy was there on another matter. Authorities say the boy had been in his father's care when he suffered the injury to his eye.
He was airlifted to the University of Minnesota for care.
On Feb. 13, a search warrant was executed at the child's home in McGregor at Kirsch St. NE. The child's father, 38-year-old Dale Vernon Preston was arrested.
On Feb. 14, Preston was arraigned before the Honorable Judge David Hermerding on the following charges:
2 counts Felony Assault in the 3rd Degree
1 count Felony Child Endangerment
1 count Felony Child Endangerment – Substantial Harm
1 count Felony Store Methamphetamine Paraphernalia in the Presence of Child
1 count Gross Misdemeanor Controlled Substance 5th Degree Possession
1 count Misdemeanor Domestic Assault – bodily harm
1 count Petty Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Bail was set at $2,500 with conditions, $25,000 bond with conditions, or bail/bond at $75,000 with no conditions.
He will appear in court again on February 25, 2020.
