Aitkin County Emergency Management would like to advise Aitkin residents of an upcoming training exercise that is to be held Aug. 6 at the Aitkin High School.

The Active Shooter Exercise is designed to test and train responders from the Aitkin Sheriff’s Office, Aitkin and Hill City Police Departments, North Ambulance Service, First Responders, Aitkin Fire Department, the City of Aitkin, Aitkin High School, State Responders, Riverwood Healthcare and Aitkin Health and Human Services, on policies and procedural plans already in place for each agency.

During this exercise, real response from these agencies will occur, and roads may be blocked off around the Aitkin High School.

The purpose of this exercise is not to scare the residents of Aitkin, but to work together with all our community partners to better respond, serve, and hopefully prevent harm to our citizens.

For more information, contact, Sheriff Dan Guida or Aitkin Police Chief Tim Catlin.
