Lately there has been a flurry of anti-abortion bills by eight or more states. Over the past few months, states including Missouri, Mississippi and Georgia, Arkansas and Alabama have taken steps to enact “heartbeat” bills. Those bill’s would ban abortion as soon as a physician is able to detect a fetal heartbeat. The first thing that jumps out is, these multi-state abortion “heartbeat” bills come with a complete lack of male inclusion in punishment. If these all-male Republican legislatures, were serious about abortions, they would be talking about sex education, free birth control, Healthcare for the child until the age of twenty-one, and mandatory sentences for rape including castration. One of the harshest ”heartbeat” bill comes from Alabama, there Gov. Kay Ivey signed a bill on May 15 that makes having an abortion punishable up to life in prison. There are no exceptions for rape or incest. The only exception would be if a mother’s life was in danger. Let us address the reason’s why a woman would consider having an abortion. She was seduced, deceived, betrayed, abused, abandoned, shamed or she may live in dire poverty. These are the common reasons a woman seeks an abortion. Let us address these issues successfully so that women need not consider abortion at all. Why can't those white republican legislatures remember, those girls never got pregnant by themselves, but they are certainly paying the price. As MY mother use to tell me, “it takes two to tango.” Don’t these old white men get it? The women are tired of being told over and over again that she is not capable of making choices about her own body. But a women’s body can be forced to reproduce, Republican’s are not treating women as a valued human in society, but rather in their ability to bear children. These “heart beat “ bill will bring back the 1960’s again. "I had friends who had an illegal abortion and barely survived, after going to visit “Aunt Mable” in South Dakota. But in reality they were going to Mexico, to a back-alley abortion clinic. In reality, "Banning abortion does not stop abortion. It stops safe abortion," and you need to think about that. Whether you believe it or not, the harsh reality is, even for white women, that the Republican’s view a woman body as a baby incubator. Some days after listening to a republican explanation the “heartbeat bill,” I just want to go and bake him a pie like Octavia did in the movie, “THE HELP”
This is for the numb-skulls out there, the Republicans shame and punish the person that can’t support another family member, [they] can’t accept a rapist's child, wouldn't be able to care properly for a disabled child, because she can’t. But you're a heartless person if you say, after seeing her in a grocery line, with food stamps, “oh she is one of those”. Oh, Republican’s can be so cruel.
