2019 snowmobile safety training

The Aitkin SnoDrifters will offer a certification course for people ages 11-15 on Jan. 19 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the SnoDrifters clubhouse at 1070 Airpark Dr., Aitkin. Certification is required by law for residents born after Dec. 31, 1976.

DNR urges extreme caution on early ice, around cold water

Anglers in Minnesota have begun making their first forays onto hard water, but ice conditions statewide – and even on the same body of water – remain extremely variable. Safety officials with the Department of Natural Resources remind people to stay off the ice until there’s at least four inches of new, clear ice. And they should be vigilant about safety and check conditions at least every 150 feet whenever they’re on the ice.

On thin ice – teach kids the dangers of ice

Now is the time to talk with kids about the dangers of ice. Ice thickness varies greatly on lakes, ponds and rivers throughout the state. Some water bodies have none, while others have several inches, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

Three holes-in-one

After a long dry spell, there were three holes-in-one recorded at Ruttger’s Bay Lake Lodge within one week. On Sept. 8, Shannon Nguyen, Blaine, (not pictured) recorded her first hole-in-one on hole 15 of Jack’s 18 Course with a seven-iron from 108 yards.

Perfect day for Sam Oden Memorial Triathlon

Saturday, July 28, was a picture perfect day for the second annual Sam Oden Memorial Triathlon. There were 128 participants. The Oden family was once again humbled by the love and support that they continue to receive. People came from near and far; many of Sam’s friends and past teachers were present.
