Julie Asmus

On Aug. 12, the first day of official practices, Julie Asmus debuted as the Aitkin Gobbler head volleyball coach. “I was out of coaching for awhile but enjoyed my role as an assistant coach last season. When the opportunity to become head coach became available, I decided to go for it,” said Asmus. “We have good numbers coming out for volleyball this year; my goal is to develop the girls’ playing skills, becoming young adults who will represent Aitkin with the utmost integrity.”

“It’s hard taking over a program that has had several coaching changes over the past few years; I hope to give the volleyball program consistency,” added Asmus who will be able to draw on former head coach Steve Michaletz who returns to the coaching world as the B-squad coach. “Steve has a great understanding of the game.”

Returning from last year’s squad are Ally Ehnstrom, setter; Kate Pelarski, libero; and Noelle Jones and Lydia Fellerman, both front row hitters.

Asmus teaches fifth grade at Rippleside Elementary; her family includes husband Dan, and their children Isaac and Ashley.
