INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT #480 REGULAR MEETING MINUTES Secondary School Media Center August 19, 2019 6:00 p.m. The Regular meeting of the School Board of Independent School District #480 was called to order by Chairman Virgil Wind. Other Board members present: Angel Oehrlein, Shelly Strecker, Ben Husom, Brian Barnett, Lisa Anderson. Members Absent: None. Also present were administration and staff: Superintendent JJ Vold, PreK-8 Principal Lisa DeMars, PreK-8 Assistant Principal Jennie Stumpf, Mille Lacs Academy Principal Holly Booth, Secondary Dean of Students Karn Dols and Board Secretary Shannon Brandt. Mr. Wind led the Board and guests in the Pledge of Allegiance. Approval of the Agenda: Motion by Mr. Barnett, seconded by Ms. Oehrlein to approve the agenda as presented. Motion passed unanimously. Approval of Previous Minutes: Motion by Ms. Oehrlein, seconded by Mr. Husom to approve the minutes of the regular school board meeting held on July 22, 2019. Motion passed unanimously. Panther Spirit Recognition: Mr. Vold recognized Joan Leach for all of her hard work and dedication to Onamia Public Schools. Communications and Public Forum: None. Presentations/Reports: A. Reports: 1. Work Session: An update was given on the work session held on August 5, 2019. The items included lunch prices and free breakfast. B. Committee Reports: 1. Policy/Personnel Committee: An update was given on the policy/personnel committee held on August 5, 2019. The items included handbooks and policies. C. Administrator Reports: 1. Superintendent Report: Mr. Vold updated the board regarding workshop week, fall sports, staff, courageous leadership, open house, youth sports camp, handbooks, internship for 10 students w/MLCV, summer work. 2. PreK-8 Principal, PreK-8 Assistant Principal and Secondary Dean of Students Report: Ms. DeMars, Ms. Stumpf and Ms. Dols updated the board regarding the assessment calendar, new teachers, open house, summer quest, kinder & prek camp, facilities updates, national night out, handbooks, huge thanks to custodians for their hard work getting everything ready for school. 3. Mille Lacs Academy Principal Report Ms. Booth updated the board regarding hiring, student enrollment, institute for courageous leadership, new teacher workshop. 4. Activities Director Report Mr. Vold for Mr. Leonard updated the board regarding fall sports, athletic training, goal post and basketball hoop updates. Approval of Consent Agenda: Motion by Ms. Anderson, seconded by Ms. Oehrlein to approve the Consent Agenda as presented. Motion passed on a five to one vote with Ms. Strecker abstaining. 1. Approve recommended Cash Disbursements 2. Approve recommended Personnel Transactions 3. Accept Donations 4. Approve Superintendent Contract Business/Board Action Items: 1. Motion by Mr. Barnett, seconded by Mr. Husom to set the Truth in Taxation meeting date for Monday, December 16, 2019 at 6pm in the Secondary School Media Center. Motion passed unanimously. 2. Motion by Ms. Anderson, seconded by Ms. Strecker to award the dairy bid to Aitkin Dairy, Bread bid to Pan O Gold and Fuel bid to Beaudry Oil & Propane for the 2019-2020 school year. Motion passed unanimously. 3. Motion by Ms. Oehrlein, seconded by Ms. Anderson to approve the Elementary, High School, Mille Lacs Academy and Staff Handbooks for the 2019-2020 school year as presented. Motion passed unanimously. 4. Motion by Mr. Oehrlein, seconded by Mr. Barnett to set the lunch prices for the 2019-2020 school year at $2.80 for elementary lunches and $2.95 for high school lunches. Motion passed unanimously. 5. First Reading The board had their first reading of policy 503 Student Attendance and policy 525 Violence Prevention (Applicable to Student and Staff). Board Communication: 9/9 Work Session, 8/22 Finance/Facilities, 9/16 Regular Board Meeting. Adjournment: Motion by Mr. Barnett seconded by Ms. Anderson to adjourn the meeting at 6:52pm.
