Every new school year brings faces both old and new to the Isle Schools facilities, and those new faces can include teachers as well as students. The following individuals will be joining the team of educators helping Isle students build bright futures this year.

Craig Pederson - Elementary Special Ed.

What is your previous teaching background?

Pederson’s background includes teaching both elementary and art and coaching football in South Dakota, Texas and Minnesota.

Where did you go to college? What was your degree in?

Pederson attended Northern State University in Aberdeen, S.D.

Where are you originally from?

Watertown, S.D.

Tell us about your family if you have one.

Pederson has one daughter and two grandkids.

What are you looking forward to with the new job?

He looks forward to meeting new people and helping new kids.

What are your hobbies and interests outside of teaching?

His hobbies include art, music, hunting and fishing.

Joe Covert - Director of ALC

What is your previous teaching background?

Covert has taught for 23 years as a social studies classroom teacher.

Where did you go to college? What was your degree in?

Covert received a B.A. in history at the University of Minnesota. He also has his Master’s of Education in social studies education.

Where are you originally from?

Minneapolis.

Tell us about your family if you have one.

He has been married for 25 years and has two children.

What are you looking forward to with the new job?

He loves working with kids and is looking forward to both the artistic and academic projects at the ALC.

What are your hobbies and interests outside of teaching?

He loves music and plays in a band. He also enjoys reading about history.

Jon Thompson - Industrial Tech

What is your previous teaching background?

Thompson was hired as a community expert.

Where did you go to college? What was your degree in?

Thompson has a B.A. in Education Technology from the University of Wisconsin - Stout.

Where are you originally from?

Sauk Rapids.

Tell us about your family if you have one.

Thompson has a wife, five kids, two dogs, and a cat.

What are you looking forward to with the new job?

He looks forward to inspiring youth toward success.

What are your hobbies and interests outside of teaching?

His hobbies include playing drums, drawing, hunting, campfires, the outdoors, and grilling.

Meghan Remer - ECFE and School Readiness

What is your previous teaching background?

This is Remer’s second year teaching. She previously taught kindergarten at Onamia

Where did you go to college? What was your degree in?

Remer attended Bemidji State University, participating in their DLiTE program online. She is licensed to teach kindergarten through 6th grade. She is currently working on obtaining pre-primary endorsement through Concordia in St. Paul.

Where are you originally from?

Remer grew up in Isle, graduating from Isle Schools.

Tell us about your family if you have one.

She is married to Andy Remer and has three kids, Zach (12), Mariah (10), and Nolan (3).

What are you looking forward to with the new job?

She is looking forward to “just being back in the hometown school that [she] grew up in,” as well as “watching the growth of [her] students throughout the year.

What are your hobbies and interests outside of teaching?

Remer’s hobbies include traveling to Alaska, hiking, hunting, fishing, gardening, and hanging out with her friends and family.
