The first annual Mille Lacs Sings was held this past Saturday, Aug. 17, in Wahkon as part of Wahkon Days. The winner was Julie Weldele who will now move on to represent the Mille Lacs area at Minnesota Sings which takes place Sept. 28 and 29 in Woodbury at the Courtyard Marriott located at Interstate 94 and Radio Drive. Minnesota Sings is a competition between cities designed for amateur vocalists. There are two divisions: ages 15 to 25 and 26 and older. Between the two divisions, along with what charity and sponsors win, the total cash payout is $20,000. In addition, contestants have the chance to win recording sessions and professional music gear.
