Gerald Becker - obituary

Gerald “Jerry” Henry Becker, 84, of Aitkin, formerly of Milaca, passed away Friday, August 2, 2019, at his home.

Services will be Thursday, August 8 at 11 a.m. in Bethesda Lutheran Church, Malmo. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church. A private family interment with military honors will be held in Minnesota State Veteran’s Cemetery, Little Falls. Memorials are preferred to Bethesda Lutheran Church, Malmo, Holden Village and Feed My Starving Children. Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Becker of Aitkin; son, Brett (Vanessa) Becker of West Plains, Miss.; daughter, Jeanine (Craig) Egerman of Lakeville; six grandchildren, Noah and Addisyn Becker and Graham Egerman, Brett, Brendan and Brady Robins; two brothers, Robert Becker of Canon Falls and Richard Becker of Pequot Lakes; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Randall Becker; sister-in-law, Roberta; nephew, Steven.

He was born June 24, 1935, in Readlyn, Iowa, to Kermit and Carolyn (Graff) Becker. Jerry moved with his parents to Milaca in 1947 and graduated from Milaca High School in 1953. He attended the University of North Dakota on a football scholarship, graduating in 1958. Jerry was part of the college ROTC program and a veteran of The United States Army who served during the Korean War from 1958 to 1959. Jerry joined the Minnesota National Guard from 1961 to 1983, retiring as Major. Jerry was united in marriage to Patricia Fischer on July 18, 1964, in Sandstone. He taught social studies and physical education at Milaca until his retirement in 1990 when they moved to Mille Lacs Lake. Jerry coached football, basketball and track and was awarded a 25-year pin and was recognized by the Minnesota High School League. He loved hunting, fishing and feeding the birds and wildlife. He sang in the church choirs and was a member of the men’s bible study (ROMEO’s). Jerry was a church treasurer of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Milaca for 15 years and treasurer at Bethesda Lutheran Church, Malmo for 12 years. Jerry and Pat loved camping and traveling and spent seven summers in Alaska. He loved and served his Lord faithfully all his life and died peacefully at home looking at God’s creation.
