Niinimoshenh, Gladys Marie Benjamin, 69-year-old resident of Onamia, Minnesota, passed away on August 11, 2019, at her residence.
A funeral ceremony was held on Friday, Aug. 16, at the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe Community Center on the Mille Lacs Reservation with Lee Staples officiating. Interment was in the Vineland Burial Grounds. Visitation was on Thursday, Aug. 15. Arrangements were with the Shelley Funeral Chapel of Onamia.
Gladys is survived by her companion, Don Stone; daughters, Christine Benjamin, Dawn Benjamin; brother, Arthur Benjamin; sisters, Joann Nickaboine, Arvina Benjamin; grandchildren, Eric, Antoinette, Darren, Brianna, Cheyenna; great-grandchildren, Anthony, Avah, Eli, Nicole, Alexandria; and many loving relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mary (Littlewolf) Benjamin; sons, Anthony and Troy Benjamin; brothers and sisters, Lillian Benjamin Garbow, Robert Benjamin, Wallace Benjamin Sr., Paul Benjamin, Lita Mae Benjamin Nickaboine, Mary Rose Benjamin Garbow Niinimoshenh.
Gladys Marie Benjamin was born on Jan. 10, 1950 in Vineland, Minn., to Joseph and Mary (Littlewolf) Benjamin. Gladys worked as an upholsterer for many years. She loved and admired nature. Gladys often walked and collected rocks along her path and enjoyed the sound of the birds along the way. Tending to her garden, beading, and being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was how she liked to spend her time. Gladys will always be remembered for her loving, caring, open arms to all along with her smile and sense of humor.
