Jay Star, 66-year-old resident of Minneapolis, Minnesota, passed away on July 20, 2019 at the Augustana Health Care Center in Minneapolis, Minn.
A memorial service was held on Wednesday, July 24, at the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe Community Center on the Mille Lacs Reservation with David Ogimaa officiating. Interment was in Sawyer Cemetery. Arrangements were with the Shelley Funeral Chapel of Onamia.
Jay is survived by his sister, Donna Shabaiash-Gilmore; niece, Morningstar Goodsky and her husband, Harvey Sr.; grand nieces and nephews, Chinoodin, Ronnie May, Evelyn, Claudia, Destan, Harvey Jr., and Vivian; his sister-in-law, Deb Shabaiash; the Davis family; and many loving nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Shabaiash and Jessie Houle; brothers, Ronnie, Russell, Eugene, Jimmy, and Wesley; and his nephew, Tony.
Jay Star was born on October 28, 1952, in Knife Falls, Minn., to George Shabaiash and Jessie Houle. He liked to spend his time at the casino, attending pow-wows, and visiting with his family and friends.
