Jerry Brandt Sr., 67, from Onamia, Minnesota, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, November 7, 2019.
There will be a celebration of life on Saturday, Dec. 14, at 11 a.m. at the Mille Lacs Living Water Assembly of God with a reception to follow at the Onamia Vets Club.
He is survived by his four children, Augusta (Jesse) Maruska of Lengby, Minn., Jerry (Briana) Brandt of Onamia, Russell Brandt of Onamia and Amanda Brandt of Isle, Minn.; mother, Shirley Brandt of Wis.; brother, Bruce (Nancy) Brandt of Hillman, Minn.; sisters, Judy (Craig) Hagman of Clintonville, Wis., Deb (Brian) Mass of Seymour, Wis.; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bob Brandt.
Jerry was born to Bob and Shirley (Mattson) Brandt in Minneapolis, Minn., on September 22, 1952. They relocated to Onamia where they farmed and established Brandt’s Ice Fishing Business.
Growing up on the farm and helping run the family ice fishing business, Jerry learned the value of hard work. In 1975, he was united in marriage to Gustie (Platt). Together they purchased the ice fishing business and worked hard to make it their own while raising their four children. Jerry continued to run the ice fishing business until his death.
In his later years, Jerry enjoyed riding his “trike” with the Legion Riders and friends. He will be remembered for his nickname, “Big Daddy” and for his love of the lake and the color purple.
