Robert Goldsmith - obituary

Robert Wayne Goldsmith, of Mora, Minn., died on Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at St. Clare’s Living Community in Mora. He was 91 years old.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, July 19, at 1 p.m. at Mora United Methodist Church with Rev. Debra Schaffram officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 12 to 1 p.m. Inurnment will be at the Oakwood Cemetery in Mora. Military Honors will be provided by the Mora American Legion Post 201.

Robert was born on October 9, 1927 in Mora, Minnesota to parents G. Sumner and Gladys (St. John) Goldsmith. Robert graduated from Mora High School. Robert served in the United States Army from September of 1946 to May of 1947 and was stationed in Japan.

On August 18, 1947, Robert was united in marriage to Marilyn A. Herr. There were two children born to them. In 1956 they moved to Onamia where Robert was employed at Glenn’s Store which they later bought. In 1991 they retired and returned to Mora where they resided at the Dala House Senior Apartments until they moved to the Villages and then St. Clare’s.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; wife Marilyn; brothers Ronald and Thomas Goldsmith; and sister Shirley Nelson.

Left to mourn are his son David and wife Linda of Isle; daughter Bonnie and husband Michael Zea of Onamia; granddaughters Jaime (Jim) Strohmeier, Jill (Cory) Zimpel, Jennifer Goldsmith, Kathryn (Lucas) Mattila, and Erin Schenk (Jeremy Haugen); great-grandchildren Zachary and Tyler Wiener, Erica and Abigail Zimpel, Courtney and Lyndsey Strohmeier, Aubrey and Laney Mattila, Grayson and Alden Haugen; step-grandchildren Jessica (Travis) Erickson, John and Kelly Becker; brother, Jim (Sonja) Goldsmith; sisters-in-law, JoAnn Goldsmith, Evelyn Goldsmith and Donna Pearson; brother-in-law Donald (Sandra) Herr; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
