Vernon was born July 2, 1940, in Jackson County, Minn., the son of Harry and Ida (Bastman) Voss. He moved with his family to the Isle area as a baby and he grew up and attended schools at the Eastwood School and then the Isle Schools. He worked with his father on the farm doing dairy farming. He also worked in a sawmill. He married RoseAnne Hendrickson on June 6, 1959, at the Malmo Free Church in Malmo, Minn. They made their home on the farm and he continued to farm with the dairy herd until 1980 when he converted to beef cattle. Vernon was a jack of all trades and could fix anything. He enjoyed his horses and farmed with them for many years. Vernon and Roseanne had just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
