First confirmed domestic violence homicide of 2019

Blue flags, banners, and yard signs that read “Live Free Without Violence” were on display last week to honor the life of Julie A. Kneifl, the first confirmed victim of domestic violence homicide of 2019. The Minnesota Coalition for Battered Women leads the Live Free Without Violence public awareness campaign with the support of hundreds of agencies, organizations, and individuals across the state.

Mille Lacs County - One watershed, one plan gets nod from most commissioners – two commissioners vote no

Mille Lacs County Board of Commissioners has been considering joining several other counties in a Rum River one watershed one plan project for over one year. The board gave approval of support to the plan back in 2017. But when it came down to signing the memorandum of agreement, two commissioners argued over one word – control.

Widespread power outage left community without electricity for extended periods of time Feb. 9-10

A widespread power outage left hundreds of residents on the north end of Mille Lacs County without electricity for extended periods of time beginning around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9. Power was restored for the majority of the affected area after three to four hours; however, about 52 households were without power overnight and into Sunday, Feb. 10.

Lueck supports Line 3

ST. PAUL – For the second time in less than one month, Rep. Dale Lueck, R-Aitkin, has co-signed a bipartisan letter to Gov. Tim Walz, urging him to support the Line 3 replacement pipeline project and to drop state-backed legal challenges to the unanimous decision by the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission to grant the certificate of need for the project.

Frigid temps cause water main breaks

Near record low temperatures during the final week of January caused water main breaks in Onamia and Isle. Temperatures in the area plummeted to minus 38 degrees F on Jan. 31, according to weather.com.
