Former employee returns as the new owner of Isle’s main street beauty salon

The green awning bearing the name Your Personal Touch Professional Hair Care should be a familiar sight to those who’ve travelled along Isle’s Main St. While the building is likely not going anywhere, locals should prepare for a change of name. Having returned to the Isle area, former employee Jamie John is the new owner of the salon, rebranded JJ’s Shear Beauty salon.

John grew up in the Isle area, graduating from the Isle High School back in 1991. She left to join the army for a time and returned in 1997. In 1998 she began working at Your Personal Touch. She would work there for the next 17 years.

A few years ago, John decided to relocate to North Dakota. When her youngest child graduated from high school, she moved to be near her husband while he was out working in the oil fields. It was Lola Larson’s offer to sell her the salon, however, that brought here back this early this June. John said Larson approached her as a former employee to see if she was interested, and she was.

Explaining her reasoning behind returning, John said, “I just liked the community. All my kids graduated from Isle, and they’re still living in the area. It kinda feels like home.”

The salon will in many ways stay the same. John intends to keep all the same staff. While Larson was away travelling, she herself will be returning. The salon’s services, ranging from haircuts, hair coloring, manicures and perms, will all remain as will their current pricing.

There were a few changes John foresaw. Most prominent, of course, is the name change. There will be some adjusting the salon’s hours. On Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, the shop will be open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. On Thursday, the hours will be 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday will have a permanent 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. block, rather than by appointment as it had been done previously.

John is currently in the process of looking into expanding the services currently offered at the salon. However, she is not yet ready to reveal any specifics. Regulars of the salon should not be surprised to see new offerings in the coming months.

The phone number for the shop, (320) 676-8457, will also be remaining, and those looking to schedule an appointment should feel free to call.

Though a familiar business has changed hands, this should be no cause for turmoil. Jamie John is not a new face to both Isle and its beauty salon. Under her direction, a change in style might be in store for the long standing locale.
