Fiddlestix RV & Golf Resort, located in Isle, Minn., is seeing some big changes to turn the resort into a seasonal destination and give Fiddlestix the honor of hosting some of Minnesota’s largest RV sites.
Owners Chuck and Marilyn Appeldoorn (who also own Appeldoorn’s Sunset Bay Resort in Isle and Northwood Hills Golf Course in Garrison) said with the nature of golf evolving they are revamping the current 18-hole golf course into a 9-hole course.
They will be adding 200 seasonal RV sites with a number of amenities including a large activity center with two outdoor swimming pools, hot tub, putting green, chipping green, netted driving range, paintball course, water war site, laser tag, fling golf, foot golf, a fishing pond, and playground with plans to add more with customer input.
When asked about the motivation behind the resort upgrade, Chuck Appeldoorn said, “With the demand going down in golf and the demand of RVing exploding, we decided now is the time to transcend into a family seasonal RV resort with a golf theme. We plan to have something for everyone.”
“We’re RVers ourselves, and some of the things we’re doing here, we’ve seen in other places. When we’ve gone to other parks and saw how many kids were around, we wanted those types of amenities to draw the families,” added Marilyn Appeldoorn.
On the RV site upgrades, Marilyn said, “A big highlight is that the majority of sites are three times the size of a typical RV park. The minimum requirement for an RV site is 2,000 square feet, and the smallest one here will be 5,000 square feet. Also, if you’re coming in with a big rig, there will be plenty of room to maneuver, and each site will have three car sites for guests or a boat. All sites will be full hook up as well.”
Brittany Grove, Chuck and Marilyn’s daughter, added, “We’re looking forward to adding these brand new amenities to the area and providing more job opportunities while bringing in a higher traffic of vacationers to help everyone on Mille Lacs benefit.”
These upgrades are the first in a multi-phase plan. The first phase will consist of the new activity center and outdoor pool along with 91 RV sites ready for this fall and for the 2020 camping season. Planned for the second phase are the remaining number of sites, up to 200 sites, for the 2021 camping season.
“This is something the area needs. We also need more activities for kids,” said Marilyn. “On the ninth fairway, there will be laser tag, paintball and water wars which we anticipate having available to the public, but we will have more information to follow on those activities.”
Along with the additions, vacationers will enjoy the Stix Bar & Grill, heated pool and hot tub, walking trails, gated dog park, convenience store (with ice, firewood and ATM), club house, arcade, fitness room, showers and restrooms, laundry facility, lawn services, winter storage, hospitality room, patio dining, jumping pad, archery, volleyball, tetherball, basketball, horseshoes, pickleball courts, shuffleboard, tiki toss, yard games, group activities, stargazing and more.
“The resort will be designed for the RVer and what you would want,” said Brittany. “It’s also exciting to be able to provide some of these activities for people around the area.”
“Having a family resort outdoor destination is having a place to make memories and a place for families to spend time together,” added Marilyn.
