A crash between two vehicles just south of Milaca led to one driver being airlifted at the scene due to life-threatening injuries on the evening of Feb. 4. The crash resulted from an attempted U-turn that occurred at the intersection of U.S. Hwy. 169 and 110th Street in Milo Township.
According to an incident report from the Minnesota State Patrol, a 2013 Honda Civic, driven by Mardon Ellen So, 22, of Hill City, was headed northbound on Hwy. 169 and had stopped on the shoulder. A 2000 Chevrolet Express, driven by Tracy Allen Vaughn, 59, of Foreston, was also traveling northbound on Hwy. 169.
The Honda Civic accelerated away from the shoulder, according to the report, attempting to make a U-turn. The Chevrolet Express collided with the Civic on its driver’s side in the northbound lane.
So sustained life-threatening injuries in the crash and was airlifted from the scene to St. Cloud Hospital. Vaughn was reportedly uninjured.
Conditions that night were dry, and seatbelt status for both Vaughn and So is unknown. According to the report, So was found to have alcohol in her system.
The Mille Lacs Sheriff’s Office, the Milaca Police Department, and Milaca Fire Department all assisted at the scene.
