A boater, Daniel Gable, 59 of Hastings, was found deceased and washed ashore in his boat on Mille Lacs Lake July 20.

In a press release Saturday, Mille Lacs County Sheriff Don Lorge reported the department received a report of a missing person on July 19 at approximately 11:06 p.m. The person reporting, Kristin Gabel, 59 years old of Hastings, stated that her husband Daniel Gable, also 59 years old and of Hastings, had not checked in with his family or checked out of his hotel. He had been fishing on Mille Lacs Lake earlier on a 16-foot alumacraft fishing boat July 19.

Law enforcement located Daniel’s truck and boat trailer at Cash’s Landing on the west side of Mille Lacs Lake in Kathio Township. Mille Lacs County Sheriff’s deputies conducted a search of the lake on water, assisted by the Minnesota State Patrol Air Support Division with a helicopter search using infrared technology during the night of July 20. Due to fog and high waves, the search did not result in locating Gable or his boat.

A subsequent search effort in daylight hours the next day located Gable who was found deceased still in his boat which had washed ashore approximately 1,000 feet south of Cash’s Landing. The body of Gable and his boat were recovered, and an autopsy is being performed by Midwest Medical Examiners Office to determine cause of death.

In a press release, the Mille Lacs County Sheriff’s Office said they wish to express their deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Daniel Gable.
