My favorite Christmas memory

The first Christmas I missed spending with my family was in 1984. I was in the Army and stationed in Panama. I remember walking back to my barracks on Christmas Eve after a turkey dinner in the mess hall. The heat was nearly unbearable, and humidity and sweat soaked my jungle fatigues to the consistency of a hot, wet dish rag.

A long way to go

I swore off air travel following the fiasco of Christmas break in 2012. Jetting to faraway locales is no longer the exciting, romantic activity that it used to be. Airports are intolerable, and planes are just Greyhound busses with wings now.
