With the advent of “catch-but-no-keep” on the big lake, I’ve taken to hanging around bays and docks observing men, women and children angling for crappies at the sunset of that season. People are not supposed to set up angling shop on the docks in the marina at Izatys Resort, but they do so anyway.

Crappies are plentiful during late spring and remained so due to water temperatures that stayed low throughout May. And what I found were anglers using some unique bait this season. Among the new allures were small jigs tipped off with bacon chips (or at least that’s what I heard them say it was since I have no idea what bacon even is). People were also using what they called “peanut butter” on the ends of their jigs.

Going to have to ask my water buddies under the docks what it is about bacon and peanut butter that is such a rush?

Slack lines and tight lips,
