IHS vs. OHS Girls Basketball

Aiyanna Mitchell scored 10 points for the Panthers in the Jan. 7 game against the Isle Huskies.

The Isle High girls basketball team brought their overall record to 4-8 with a loss to Onamia but a win over Upsala.

The Onamia Panthers girls basketball team hosted the Isle Huskies in the first of their two scheduled meetings this winter on Jan. 7.

Onamia won the event, 68-50. A summary of that contest appears on page 13.

 Isle 28 22 50

Onamia 44 24 68

Scoring: Onamia - Orazem 22, Saboo 18, Mitchell 10, Smith 7, Barnett 6, Emerson 5. Isle - Ajax 13, Gallion 11, Miller 7, Remer 7, Big Bear 4, VanBuskirk 3, Oberfeld 3, Cooper 2.

In what Isle coach Kate VanBuskirk said was a hard-faught game, her Huskies beat the non-conference Upsala Cardinals on the road, 61-53, on Jan. 10. Isle outscored Upsala in both halves. “We’d get a lead and they (Upsala) kept coming back,” VanBuskirk said. “But we got some clutch baskets late in the game.”

The star on offense for the Huskies was senior Carly Gallion who put up 30 points, including five of Isle’s nine 3-pointers for the evening.

 Isle 35 26 61

Upsala 29 24 53

 Scoring: Gallion 30, Remer 10, Ajax 9, Oberfeld 5, Miller 5, VanBuskirk 2.
