On Aug. 27, the Isle Huskies hosted the Swanville Bulldogs in the opening varsity volleyball match of the 2019 season.
The Huskies lost in three straight sets but not before giving their guests a run for their money.
Set one saw Isle jump out to a 5-3 lead before the Bulldogs scored eight straight points off the serve of Sydney VanRissegham and never looked back.
The Huskies tied the Bulldogs six times in set two, including 23-23, before going down on two straight kills by Swanville.
A highlight of set two for Isle was four kills turned in by Mary Ajax.
Isle held a 9-4 lead in set three and the teams were tied five times, including 19-19. A serve into the net by Isle and four ensuing power kills the Bulldogs won the game and the match for Swanville.
Isle was out-killed 34-19 by Swanville, and the Bulldogs held the advantage in aces, 10-4. The kill advantage by the Bulldogs was the difference in the match.
Leading Isle in kills was Ajax with seven, followed by five from Isabelle Krawiecki, four by Tommi Spengler, three by Emily Miller and two by Megan VanBuskirk.
Isle had eight serves go into the net which did not help their cause.
