Stuck on two wins ever since Dec. 17, the Onamia Panthers boys basketball team got their third win of the season last Friday evening, beating Ogilvie to break a four-game losing streak.
It was the showcase of two separate halves for the Onamia Panthers boys basketball team when they hosted the St. John’s Prep Johnnies on Jan. 6.
St. John’s completely controlled the first half and took an 18-point, 39-21 lead into intermission.
Onamia came roaring back in the second half and whittled the Johnnie lead to just two points with six minutes remaining thanks to spectacular shooting by Cayden Eagle.
But Onamia could come up with just one field goal during the remaining six minutes and lost, 61-54.

The Long Prairie-Grey Eagle Thunder hosted the Onamia Panthers in a non-conference game on Jan. 9 and beat their guests, 58-42.
Onamia’s big guns on offense, Josh Parrow and Brandon Nickaboine, were held to a total of 11 points, although Cayden Eagle, who has come around of late, led the Panthers in scoring with 17 points.

The game between the Onamia Panthers and Ogilvie Lions on Jan. 10 was a virtual scoring fest with the teams combining for 129 points, 13 3-pointers and three players putting up over 20 points. Onamia finished the game shooting 46 percent from the field while Ogilvie was a respectable 40 percent.
Onamia ended up winning, 74-55.
The Panthers enjoyed an 8-point lead by half-time with Josh Parrow, Brandon Nickaboine and Cayden Eagle accounting for 34 of Onamia’s 37 points.
The teams combined for 39 turnovers.
Nickaboine and Parrow combined for 47 points.
