OHS Volleyball - Roxann Emerson

Onamia’s Roxann Emerson has established herself as one of the best liberos in the Great River Conference.

The Onamia Panthers volleyball team won their only scheduled match last week–a 3-1 win over conference rival Braham–to extend their overall record, including tournament play to 14-6 with just East Central, Cromwell and Isle left before sections begin. The Panthers will most likely finish in third place in the Great River Conference behind Pine City and Rush City, who both have just one loss.

Heading into the third week of October, Onamia was ranked first in their section with a 9-1 record against section teams so far this season.

Onamia was also ranked 51st in the state among the 187 Class A teams.

In their match versus Braham, a team they had beaten earlier this fall, the Panthers spotted the Bombers the first game but outclassed their hosts in game two and three before going extra frames to win by two points in the decisive game four.

MaKayla Balder led Onamia in kills with 10, followed by Kailee Barnett with nine, Krissy Dahl with five, Shayla Nayquonabe with three and Rachel Oehrlein with two.

Onamia got five aces off the serve of Nayquonabe, four from Balder and three by Barnett. Balder also led her team in serve assists with 17, followed by 12 from Ashley Rogers.
