Force at the net

Onamia senior Krissy Dahl has consistently been among the scoring leaders for the Panthers.

The regular season came to an end with two wins last week for the Onamia Panthers volleyball squad.

The Panthers finished with an overall record of 17-9 counting tournament matches and finished second in the Great River Conference behind Pine City and Rush City who tied for first with identical GRC won-loss records. Onamia sported a 10-1 record against section teams, which earned them a second seed in the upcoming Section 5A Tournament that starts with a home match versus East Central onThursday, Oct. 24. If Onamia wins, they would host most likely Braham on Friday, Oct. 25.

Cromwell-Wright

The Cromwell-Wright Cardinals hosted the Onamia Panthers in a showdown between two of the best Class A volleyball teams in the upper mid-Minnesota area.

Onamia came to town ranked 56th in the state with an overall record of 15-9 counting tournament play.

The match could not have been more competitive with just three total points separating the two teams through the five sets needed to decide the event. Finally, Onamia won, 3-2.

Onamia recorded 44 kills, including 15 off the hand of MaKayla Balder, 11 from Lily Orazem and 10 by Krissy Dahl.

Isle

The Onamia gym was packed on Oct. 15 when the Panthers volleyball team hosted the cross-county rival Isle Huskies.

Onamia had their way with their guests, winning easily, 3-0.

As were most of the 20 losses by Isle this season, they were out killed by a wide margin by their opponents. The Panthers recorded 27 kills to just eight by the Huskies.

Perhaps the biggest gap statistically between the two teams was in aces, where Onamia servers recorded 24, including 11 in the final set. Isle could manage just one ace through the three sets.

Kailee Barnett, Lily Orazem, MaKayla Balder and Krissy Dahl accounted for 20 of Onamia’s 27 kills.

The match was the final regular-season event before sections begin on Oct. 24.
