Since the Ruttger’s Bay Lake course was too wet to host a Crosby Invitational cross-country meet on Oct 3, Brainerd offered to host instead.
“I was super happy, since I had been looking for another meet when I got Brainerd’s email,” Mille Lacs Raiders CC coach Jeff Walz said.
Six teams attended the meet, and the Raiders finished second behind the host school.
“We ran well. It was a cold day which was perfect for setting personal best runs,” Walz said. All nine athletes from Mille Lacs set season bests, with seven of them setting new personal bests, including Onamia sophomore Molly Saboo. Saboo ran an impressive 21:11 and was third overall. Seventh grader Arielle Pendegayosh and freshman Nevaeh Merrill nearly broke the 24:00 mark. They also finished in the top ten. Two seventh graders, Rihanna Smith and Isabelle Cerrillo, rounded out the scoring,
As the season winds down, the Raiders prepare for the GRC meet on Oct. 15 at Pine City.
